I was a bit confused by a Dodge I saw today. Late model 1500, Megacab, Hemi. The thing that confused me was the solid front axle and 8 lug wheels on a 1500. Is that some kind of 1/2 ton HD tow package or something or is it some kind of re-sprung 3/4 ton?
That is an axle swap. 1/2 ton = IFS.

This was a late model (guessing '06-'08 from the body style), not lifted, clearly stock truck. I got a close enough look to see it wasn't an axle swap. I know that generation Ram has IFS on 1/2 tons:thefinger:, which is why I'm so confused.:confused:

Most websites are pretty worthless for real specs, but this one says the Mega Cab 1500 uses the same frame and suspension as the 2500. I guess that would explain it, but then what makes it a 1500? Maybe they meant same frame with softer springs...
Yes the 1500 Mega Cab is built off a 2500 frame and axles but with softer springs. That is the only difference.
Were both axles 8 Lug? where did you see it at/ a lot somewhere that others can take a look? The 1/2 tons (mega cab version) do use the same frame as the 3/4 tons (excpet for the heavy duty versions) and the supension greatly varies. There are 3/4 tons and there are 3/4 ton heavy duty also engine choice changes things so I don't think saying they use the same suspension is accurate. Also the axles are different in the 1/2 tons than the 3/4 tons, atleast they were. The 1/2 tons used rear Corporate 9.25 and front corporate 8" and depending on which motor and version the 3/4 tons used AAM 10.5 rear and AAM 9.25 front. And the 1 ton becomes a whole new animal in it's own. But I'm not a complete expert on these. So the info I have could be wrong as this is all coming from my memory. Let's call Genes tomorrow and ask for a replacement part for a 1500 front solid axle like say axle seals and see what they say, could be an interesting phone call.

Interesting I had never heard or seen this. It also contradicts every other source of information I know. The doge forums has some good info and this site http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/rams-2002.html I have used in the past for older dodges and the heavy duty ones is usually spot on for information

I'd like to look at this truck myself and examine it.

Although it features a brand new frame, new suspension and new body mounts, the Mega Cab is immediately recognizable as a Dodge Ram. The starting point for the Mega Cab is the Ram 2500 long box. The body has been lengthened by 20" and the pickup box shortened by 20”. Those twenty inches of space have been filled with two full-size doors with full size rear seats and folding seatbacks. When you see the Quad Cab and the Mega Cab side-by-side, you’ll notice a considerable difference in the size of the cabs particularly from the B-pillar aft. The Mega Cab’s rear doors are 10 inches longer than the Quad's.
