Sorry I didn't mean to come off like I was pissed. I was trying to get to the point the TJvig got to. How many of you have actually wheeled with one or "personally" saw one in action. I've seen several, and for someone who doesn't want to go used, or someone who doesn't want to spend money on axles to run larger tires, they aren't that bad. The locking diff is a standard item. Wish all Jeeps were that way.

I'm sorry I'm on the soapbox. I get frustrated that folks that have never seen a Hummer wheel, (besides the 12 stupid driver vids) bash it without knowing what it is capable of.

And not to be a jerk, but my 4.2L YJ got 12 mpg with 235/75's on a good day. Offroading I was lucky to get 6 mpg. I had only a 20 gallon gas tank (thanks to the Sahara package). The H2 has a 32 gallon tank. I think he's okay for awhile. I never even came close to running out on my adventures. If it's that close, bring a few jerry cans and make sure to keep the AAA card handy.

I almost bought an H3 this summer instead of building up my ZJ. I only changed my mind because I decided I like only having one car payment. The ZJ is paid for and the wife's Buick isn't. Plus, after watching the best friend bruise and dent his new LJ, I decided I prefer beating on the older ones better. However there will be a day when I remove the ZJ from DD duty and when I do, it will be a toss up between an H3 and a 4 door pickup. I'd lean tward an H3 just because I've had a pickup and realize it's nice but for the amount I actually needed the bed, it wasn't worth keeping. So I bought a nice trailer to haul my crap around with.

To each his own, but please, don't rag on something you don't have experience with.

Ah, yes. All the problems of IFS combined with the problems of a solid axle, with massive camber issues added in :p

But they do take landings well.

What? My K20 had two 18 gallon ones. I know the 93 Bronco we had used a 32. It's not that big in comparison to a pickup.

Hard to compared a mid sized vehicle to something that's full sized.



The wife's best friend has two Wagoneers in the family. One can tuck 38's all day long without a problem. He has two 20 gallon tanks. I asked him about his mileage once, he told me it would make him cry to actually track it, so he doesn't. I know he took it to the Phoenix airport and back which is about 250 miles. He topped off prior to leaving and filled up after draining the first tank and getting below 1/4 on the other. He was about 40 miles from Tucson on the return at that point. I did the math, it's about 6 mpg. Now the Waggy is something you could compare an H2 to.

i work at the chevy dealer, ive seen a few, and they seem like fancy trucks to me, and oh boy axle tube seals, when chevy makes one that dont leak let me know, the h3 may as well be a ford

Agreed 2000 mf percent!....
I admit, I'd try to do a Turbo diesel conversion on the ZJ prior to buying another vehicle (besides small car to use while conversion is happening). But I drool all the time.

Yeah big gas tanks cost more to fill, but I noticed that I went further with that old K20 Chevy and it's two tanks than my D150 with it's single 30. The K20 got better gas mileage and so the gas tank fillup cost was offset by distance traveled.

Going from a Montero to just about any other 4x4 (Zuk and Geo not included) is going to hurt the wallet more at the pump.

I still find it funny my ZJ and my old XJ's get within a few mpg of each other (well the ZJ didn't until it got a 5-speed) but my YJ was such a HOG. Even with new carbs it didn't help. Oh well. At least they were all 4x4's.

I miss my Taurus' 85 MPH cruising speed at 20 miles to the gallon.

Speaking of gas...

My Honda.. I filled it last Friday. Ive been into town a few times.. Ive rapped it through the gears a few times on the high way as well. (8000 rpms) And I still have a quarter tank.
I miss our 85 K20 with the 6.2L and 4 speed. That thing got close to 25mpg every tank except in the winter when we let it idle nearly three months straight, even then it was not as much as the stupid old D150. It went over 350K prior to finally nearly rusting to pieces, but we held a memorial service prior to it's departure. We sold it to anothe HS kid who wanted to rebuild the body. He did so, but a few years ago the vehicle disappeared. God only knows how many miles were on it, but it just kept running. I think it had more hours of idle time on it than miles running down the road.

It was my dad's work truck for six years, getting nearly 50K a year and not shutting off from December through March, except to refuel. I remember changing a clutch and brakes, along with oil. That's it. I miss that old monster.

Don't know to much about it, but from what I do know I like how they made it smaller...I was never fond of the H2 because of the size, I also like how they lowered the sticker price as well, another downer of the H1 and H2. I would welcome one on the trail, I think it would do pretty well pulling double duty as DD and weekend wheeler. All that aside I personally would not buy one, but most of my reasoning has little to nothing to do with off road capability.

IMO, odd numbers in a line is un american as is running an axle through the oil pan.

this shoulda been a poll... that way we could quantify that most people don't like it with numbers.

Man that hurts... I love the Scrambler but the rund between NP and Fairbanks on my R&R eat up the fuel.

Odd #'s in a line I5 thats like audi and mercedees tech that didn't work. should of just put a 4.8 or 5.3 in it as they are for next year.

I've never heard of the I5s not working. They've sold those engines for 30 years now.
33's from the factory. Why not compare it to the Dodge Powerwagon. Hands down, I vote Dodge. Also, my Grand Cherokee cost less then that H3 does. If it aint the original military H1, it aint a real hummer anyways.
Also note your GC is not brand new. Compared prices of an H3 to a 4x4 WK and they are about even, that's with a 3.7L V6 and no low range in the Jeep though.
