The day started out great, everyone made it to the gas station that was coming, then we drove out on our way to 3 kings, We stopped on the way and drove up the Waterfall, without incident, continued on to 3 kings when we got 3/4 of the way there the snow was just getting too deep for the lower rigs so we turned back. on the way back we decided to try to exit through FE Gold Camp, but after about 30-45 minutes the snow was once again too deep. So we turned back, and on the way back out I wanted to retry the Waterfall, during which I popped both beads on my passenger side and took on about 2gal of water in each tire as well as smashing in my passenger rear quarter-panel... After we got my jeep rolling again, Eric tried, but to no avail... then it was mousee's turn at which point he proceeded to try and roll his jeep over, he only got so far as his drivers side, when we had to push him back on his wheels. Mousee made it through, at which point Stomper made an attempt, during which he broke his rear passenger side axle Shaft and causing his shaft to almost come out of the housing. Mousee ratchet strapped his tire on and was towing him out when his floorboard caught fire from his cat glowing red. I went to my house and got my dodge and then drove out to Stompers house to pick up his trailer, then back out to the trailhead where I had them load Stompers Jeep on the trailer to take to mousee's house. I had already unhooked from the trailer when Mousee's wife asked us to move it again so it wouldn't be in the way of the plow trucks, as I was backing up to the trailer again I was sucked into the ditch, and during my attempt to get out I smacked my dodge into a pallet full of something solid and dented my drivers side quarter-panel. then I got hooked up to the trailer and as I was backing it into his Driveway i slipped into the ditch on the other side, lifting one tire on the truck and one on the trailer, I just can't keep them on the ground. It took Mel's 3500 and Eric's jeep to pull me out. after that it was smooth sailing we went to the restaurant and ate Prime Rib for dinner.

Holy crap, I'm glad I escaped with only a cracked windshield and a broken valve stem(noticed when I got to Sears to get the ice out of my wheels). Today had the most carnage I've ever seen on the trail.

Sounds like today was insane! Glad that everyone got home safe and that the only damage was to vehicles. Fortunetly, it doesn't sound like anything too crazy or difficult to repair.

Yeah and TJ gave the short runthrough of the day. No one has any photos though. I have a few of Stomper almost on his side and video of both Mousee and me popping on our sides. I was just up against the wall more and could still drive out of it in reverse. I thought the right side of the YJ was trashed, but all it did was push the mirror against the plastic window. I think TJ got it the worst with the corner damage. We keep yelling "You popped a bead" But he never heard what we were saying, He just kept trying. After Stomper broke I didn't go back up. Didn't want to be pulling two rigs out. We tied the XJ's rear pass tire to the spring and slid it out with Mousee pulling. When we got the trailer there I drove up behind the XJ and put my front driver's tire up against his and as we drove I kept the axle in the tube. TJ please tell Lisa thanks for the food. It was yummy. It was fun wheeling with you all and there was some outstanding driving going on. D that was just rad. Sorry I didn't get back up there after you.

Cool. I forgot the best part. Driving home. 20 lbs. of ice in each rim makes for a bumpy ride home. Stomper was riding with me and every time I steped on the brakes the YJ would make a hard left turn. Ice in the right brakes.

I had a blast. Riding with TJ is fun. Having to go back and get the trailer was a task. That top with all the snow on top of it was heavy John. Watching TJ go into the ditch lifting one rear tire on the dodge and one tire on the trailer was just awesome. Thanks for the food TJ. still waiting on the cal to fix those tires.

This trip was a adventure for sure. HUGE thanks to everyone that helped out with my extraction. Timmae for getting my family out Mousee for pulling me for miles down the trail skidding along, TJ for getting the trailer and hauling me to town and the Prime rib, again Mousee for getting me running again and TJ for donating the spare shaft. And everyone else that I am forgeting. As of right now I am up and running again but contemplating upgrades. The waterfall was the highlight of the day. Eric was leading on the way into three kings and we hit the waterfall Eric made it no problems and I followed thru with little effort then Mousee with his full widths searched and found the line that let him squeeze thru. It was after we hit the rest of the trail and came back that we had the problems. Everything was iced up and caused some CARNAGE.

alrighty then, here are the pics of the axle carnage :)
there was ALOT of chunks in the tube! had to fish 'em all out with a magnet. got most of 'em  no JK Stomper, got 'em all
replaced the axle seal also and the brake shoes on that side. seal was ripped and the shoe was all busted up and bent.

overall a piece of cake to replace. just wish it had had more time to dry off. or do it in the cold. theres nothing worse than a warm shop with subzero drips hitting you under the collar

anyway enough gabbing, pics...

if you can get video to a computer, I can host it.

TJVigilante
05 Dec 05, 01:12 pm
alright, I got the DVD, got video from the DVD to my computer, but the program I used put it into little pieces, only would let me use MPEG1 and my windows movie maker won't recognize them so I can't put them together. I'm going to look around for another program that lets me rip the whole DVD at once in a format that would be recognized, or I'll just get a program that lets me put them all together as-is then edit them into clips of my choosing. In due time. And my friend is going to drop off those pictures to me sometime on a memory stick, so as soon as that happens I'll have pictures.

akram
05 Dec 05, 01:16 pm
That's the same problem I was having. I got tired of fooling with it. I still have your ape eric. The discs I bought to make a copy of it aren't working right now. So I'm going to get new ones today.

TJVigilante
05 Dec 05, 01:46 pm
well, I got the problem you had, then I downloaded another program that actually captured the video, I can watch them on my computer without the DVD in. They're just in increasingly smaller and smaller files, with Stompr's escapades spread across 3-4 whole clips, the last one only 5 seconds long.

Timmae
05 Dec 05, 01:47 pm

I was making a video for stompr and eric but every disc I buy isn't working in my recorder. Hopefully I get it ironed out soon. Can you let stompr take a look at the vid I gave you since I can't make a copy of one right now and was supposed to. Eric i'll get you your video back within the next day or so if it's cool.

I think I found something that works, it's saving it now but it's ballooning the size to over 2gb, but I'll have that sized down in windows media player no problem. That's if it works. If not, I'll save the files to my computer and give you back the DVD, so you can make copies if you need to while I'm figuring this out.

akram

any chance of getting the footage from Banner Jake's run on E video? Its on the same tape

TJVigilante
07 Dec 05, 09:06 am
I think it was overwritten, there's a small (1/4 second) clip of your rig at the end of the carnage shot, which was the end of the video, then it goes into some chick flick looking thing.

And most of the spots where it looked like we were struggling, we were just testing out our burnout skills, I think we came along pretty fine. 8) Seriously though, all of those shots are confusing because you don't see the incline of the hill we were on. It was slight, but enough to keep our forward momentum to a minimum.

naturalbornmudder
07 Dec 05, 09:21 am
it was on there when I had it at the meeting. Check forward of the FBX creek run, Eric had a good 10 minutes worth of video on there from Jakes Run.

No one erased it did they? I know it was on there.

akram
07 Dec 05, 10:24 am
Yeah banner is on there. Problem I'm having now is getting it from vhs to dvd. I think I have one copy of the whole tape that actually worked. I was trying to get a full copy for eric. If he doesn't mind waiting a bit longer I'll let joe borrow the dvd for a bit and see if he can do something with the video.

Joe can stompr get the dvd if he still wants it.
