View Full Version : TJ lift....
Looks like my Rubi will be getting an OME lift thanks to Ron and AOS... I've done lots of leaf spring lifts. This will be my first coil system. Would I need a coil spring compressor for any reason? Should be a pretty easy install from what I can tell...

I did not use a coil spring compressor. I disconnected the track bar and flexed the axles to one side then the other useing a pry bar at times for leverage to fit the taller springs in. Then once they are in, I changed the control arms. After all that is done, I swapped out the shocks. Obviously I disconnected the old shocks when doing the spring and control aerm install, so after it was done I just threw the new ones in.
Lastly I did the sway bar links, brake lines, etc.
The OME lift is only 2" so it shold be easyer to do then yours. Your 4" arn't you?

yes. If it is 2" lift, you may not need to pry with the pry bar. I would still disconnect the track bar though. It will make it easier on you in the long run.

You wont need one, like Nate said, I did a 3.5 without them, its not to bad.

Um, disconnecting sway bar, steering and track bar on my TJ still required a prybar to put my stock springs back in, and they're sagged. I'm sure with some ingenuity and elbow grease, and alot more time, you can get 2.5" lift springs in but I wouldn't count on it. Now, if you disconnect the control arms as well, then I see no problem.

Go to my jeep build in MMMH or to my cardomain and it will do a step by step on how you can put in 4.5" springs with out compressors. In a nut shell, shocks, sway bar, big floor jack, tall jack stands. Like nate said, compress one side, take spring out, put spacer in and put spring back in. You can disconnect the track bar or leave it on, if you leave it on I would do the pass side first because it's only going to droop so far.

I put 2" spacers above 3" springs without a spring compressor.
prybar, bottle jack, 2 ratchet straps, leather gloves, these are all your friends.
