Well, thought I had better break in the new (to me) rig so headed to Kev's this afternoon and thought I'd tempt the slough.

Got stuck, couldn't get enough to get out of the crap, and dug a few holes that made life interesting and allowed water in the cab. I rolled down the back window, (never been so thankful for a power rear window in my life) and removed the hitch ball while Kevin got his K-5 in place to winch me out. The rear hitch sits a bit low on that thing so after pulling us back to the hill you decend (when attempting this obstacle) I decided to try it again instead of digging the hill to get up it backwards. Well, power seemed to be lacking and I got nowhere and sideways. So we hooked the winch back up and dug out the hill a little so that the hitch would at least not dig in too bad. By now my K-5 didn't want to restart, and had me confused. Kev pulls me up and out and back over to his house. We change the carb, as we think that might have been the problem. We verify we have fuel pressure, I knew I had fuel in the tank, and it won't start. Check the distributor cap, it's good. Frustrated we check the fuel line again and Kevin notes that after getting fuel all over his hands, he doesn't smell at all like gas. We test and verify that we're getting mostly water to the carb. WHOOPS! Before I leave I turn the ignition on and leave it on for a few minutes to notice the fuel guage which was around the 3/8's to 1/4 mark before this was attempted is now at the 3/4 mark. Hmmm.... Always wanted a vehicle that generated gas intead of burning it, but I don't think this one is good enough for a patent.

If all goes well, I may try to siphon the tank before the meeting Saturday.

I'm sure Kevin will post up the wonderful pics he took later.

Mark said he wasn't happy with the cameraman, but it sure looks as if he's posing here:

And here:

The reason we had to do some digging. His hitch was trying to bulldoze the landscape. Including a small stump.

The water was nasty!

And the drop off is steeper than it looks. Here you can see the angle he is sitting at.

Kev, I can't see the angle of the hill. Your camera lense musta cracked.

That hill is bad.

Someone got a tractor we can borrow if Ryan gives it a shot?

Kev and I realized that last time he attempted this the ground was still mostly frozen and the water wasn't quite so deep.

We don't need no stink'n tractor, if you can make it that far I can make it all the way through;)

I'm sure you are already aware of it but I have to say it. If water got into the tank that easy there is probably all kinds of crap in your tank. It could be the source of the previous carbeuration issues. You might consider something a little more drastic than siphoning.
Cool hole though I'd like to hit it sometime.

Well after replacing the carb, it ran fine.

The old carb was a Holley with a blown power valve.

Water came in through the old vacuum hose that ran to the carbon cannister which is no longer in the vehicle. On a good note, I have a clear fuel filter so I can see how much crap's coming through.
