What kind of fluid when it dries it looks and feels like charcol???? One of my jeeps seems to be leaking this onto my garage floor but I cannot tell where it is coming from.

it might be condensation in the exhaust pipe mixing with carbon buildup in the exhaust pipe...usually harmless if it is coming from the tail pie. Can cause rust if it is coming from the muffler, and will usually evaporate over time if it is coming from the catalytic convertor, but if it is coming from the cat, how did it get there?

did ya get all that? 8-)

The dried fluid is grainy feeling when you rub it? What kind of Jeep is this coming from? (XJ, YJ, TJ, etc..) and where under the Jeep are you seeing the fluid? (tail pipe, oil pan, tranny, etc..)

Some more info will help out

Is it oily at all or just chalky?

Well It feels exactly like very fine charcol. I am not 100% sure but I believe its coming from the middle of the vehicle. The two jeeps I have are a 2002 TJ and a 98 Grand Cherokee. My wife just had a oil change done on the cherokee at the service station on base. Well they didnt have Vavlolene so they talked her into using the housebrand, which is like 0.95 a quart. And the oil in the cherokee is low. Could the cheap oil actually dry out and be like charcol. Tomorow Im planning on changing the oil myself and get under there and tell if was leaking from the oil pan or not.

You may have an exshaust leak in the pipes some where and the soot is dripping out.

I'm not an oilogist but I don't think oil can dry out like that.

Exhaust. start it up in the cold, and watch for steaam anywhere but the end of the tailpipe. That's how I check for leaks.

my muffler in my Chrysler had a drain hole in the bottom of the first muffler for any gas or water buildup to run out on its own....that may be your issue.
