Has anyone ever used these pivoting perches. I am thinking of making some of these for my EB. It looks like if you can build them strong enough it would work well. May have to add some traction bars to help with axle wrap though.
Opinions???

I can't see the pic just an X
Picture no good here either, you talking about a revolver-style shackle?

I can see it on my computer. Am I adding picture wrong?

No better. That forum requires us to be logged in to view the thread.
And attachments can't be linked. That's why your pic is a redX.

One more try.

Interesting concept. I can see how that would help articulation with leafs. You'd have to live with the same disadvantage as a lift block when it comes to axle wrap. It looks like the pivot base is already bending just from the u-bolts. If I were to do this I'd weld the pivot directly to the axle housing. Cleaner, no u-bolts, less axle wrap, and no bending over the spring perch.

Very interesting concept, however I look at it this way.....One more thing to break.

On 4x4 tv there cheap jeep had some shackles that allowed for better articulation, I just cant remember what they were called.

like these ones they look cool but I have seen some bad reviews about them such as they are good for ramping but not so good for off road

these are used in combination with the teraflex z boxes for more articulation

agreed, too much can be too much.
i guess you would just have to weigh your wheeling priorities,
looks and gadgets vs metal and mud

I would think a trac bar would be needed with those. Thus, negating all gained articulation. And returning us to Tom's comment.

They talk bad about these on the zuki forums. I have never use one so i cant say good or bad

I've heard one real life review of revolvers from someone who's run them. They really do wonders for droop travel but on a steep climb the fronts can unload dangerously and make your front end lift up.
As for the perch pivots, I'm not sure the axle tube should even move that way in relation to the leafs. The twisting needs to happen at the spring eyes and shackles in relation tot he frame. Alcan uses Johnnie Joints that they call Orbit Eye joints in place of rubber or poly bushings for that. In the picture it looks like the strength of all the mounting bolts is irrelevant and the pivot pin is by far the weak link.
Is that perch someone's homemade experiment or are they sold somewhere?

The perches are made by some guy I found on a bronco forum. On the forum they said that they worked well and made for a lot of articulation. The problem was that some of them were weak. A couple of guys had them fail on the hwy.

I can see where they would be weak the way they are designed. There is considerable room for improvement. Geoff is right you would need a track bar, otherwise with the flex in the spring bushings and the pivot would allow the axle to walk side to side. If the geometry is set up right it won't limit articulation enough to to make a difference.

stole my idea anyway... But thats ok, cause I found that flex was very acheavable without the revolvers, z-box's or axle pivot. I reworked a few other areas and viola! yj outflex a tj :)

I didn't steal it - I simply hauled it away!
I have a frame that Mousee worked on that has 1/2 ton Chevy axles and a set of spring mounts very similar to this design... I don't think they ever finished the project to run it and see how it did.
My Brother wanted this frame, so we hauled it over here - he doesn't want it anymore...
If anyone wants it, come haul it off and it's yours.

what kind of axles are they full width and do you know what gears

front is a 10 bolt, rear - I'd have to look.
unknown gear ratio.
pretty much stock axles with some custom spring perches.

didn't say YOU stole it kev..."they" stole my idea...
That chassis has a first itteration of an idea, planned on remaking it and never got to... You can get the concept though.
