I just realized if I put a winch on the front of the Monty, I need to make sure my electrical system can handle it.+ I currently have a Sears Plus Start battery. This battery worked great in New Mexico, but it struggles a little up here.+ My question is, how difficult is it to put two batteries in the Montero?+ Maybe by a really good one as the promary and use the plus start as an axiluary or should I just go get a really great battery and leave it at that.+ Now, what would y'all suggest for a battery.+ I have used Die Hards, Everlast Maxx (From Walmart), Motorcraft (Crap), AC Delco (Worse than Motorcraft.)

Nothing but OPTIMA here

first off, you need to ditch the Plus Start. They're junk batteries that are worse than the factory crapola batteries. Put an optima blue top if you really feel the need to, or just get a die hard gold or SUV battery.

You also may want to look at upgrading your alternator

I do understand about the plus start battery, but at the time I bought it, it was aquick fix to a bad problem. Who sells Optimas and what kind of alternator do you all recommend?

Sears sells optimas and I have no idea who you can go to for an alt.

Battery problem solved!+ I did some research on batteries.+ The Optima was the highest rated one because of it's system.+ Any hoop, I bought a red top, I think it'll do.+ The red tops are really expensive and the yellow tops are just freaking ridiculous!+ It has 1000 CA and 800 CCA.+ The write up says these batteries charge fast, so my stock alternator should be able to handle the job.

Please tell me this was not a mistake. It was not a cheap battery. My wife almost passed out when I told her.

I have a red top on my jeep and haven't had a problem with it so far. Of course I just bought it around Sept or so.

I've had the red tops in my jeep for 3 years and my chevy 1/2 ton for 4 years. Arizona heat to Alaska cold---still crank like the day I installed them.

red tops best bang for the buck. I'd have gone with the blue top for a little more though, but it'll still do you right.

Ok with all this said will it be able to handle the winch and possibly 4 off road lights?

still may need a bigger alt for use with the winch, that or someone to stay on the gas while you're winching.

Well we may have to do that for now TJV, because the battery tightened my budget up just a little bit.

If in the future you decide you need more juice running back into your battery being a Mitz I dont know any sources for replacement but if you talked with Alaska Electric Rebuilders I am sure they could "supercharge" yours, or have a solution very knowledgable people over there.
