Trying to figure out an affordable upgrade. I have a 8.8 LSD with 3:73 gears, I haven't looked to see if I have one with 4:10. Problem is that her Jeep has 3:07 gears. Any suggestions for the front axle?

If you can keep her out of the throttle it should make it!!

I'm not a Jeep guy, however...

From what I have noticed, the dana 30's with gearing and 35's seem to handle things ok. That should be what is in there. I wouldn't go any bigger than 35's on a 30.

Don't know what models had what, but a dana 44 front would be better - with chromoly shafts and lockers it should be strong and very capable.

Back in the day when I had a YJ I put a wagoneer D44 in the front of mine, had to do some fabbing on the spring perches but other than that it went right in.... 6 bolt pattern though, so you would have to match that in back or get 5 lug rotors for the D44. As I recall the waggy D44 was like 1.5 inches wider that the D30 it replaced, no big deal, 3/4 of an inch on each side. Some years of wagoneers had driver side drops other had passenger side drops, not sure which years were which. A little googling and I bet you could come up with a how to guide with pics, as I am certain I am not the first or last to install a wagoneer 44 in the front of a YJ.

That figures, had one with a burnt motor I bought for the new tires a couple years ago and took it to the transfer site. I've still got a 30 in the front of mine and a built 35 in the rear and haven't busted it yet, was just thinking I I was going to swap the ring gear and pinion on her front I might as well put somthing up there a little better.

Go with your 8.8 and re-gear your 30. In time you can get stronger axles if you want to but the 30 axles will handle ALOT, my YJ took alot of abuse before I put the 4340 axles and super joints in it and got rid of the vac. dis-con.

My 4.10's are a little too deep for 31's but doable...they'd be perfect for 33's with my 4.0.
