It was definitely an interesting ride. Unfortunately, to start things off Steve had to pull my +++ out off the side of Steese then we all got to Fox. We headed out to the creek, but TJ decided to miss the trailhead. It's all good though, it made for some interesting wheeling. After fightin' deep snow and angry snowmobilers he decided we'd head out to S. Cushman and wheel around there for a lil while. So, we stopped back by the gas station and picked up the Exploder and headed out. Other than me gettin' stuck about 5 times, it was a good ride. All i need is about 5 or 6" of clearance to avoid most of the crap i got stuck in today. All-in-all, it was a very successful ride. TJ, Sabrina and i are heading into town and drop that roll of film off so i should have pics either tonite or tomorrow. i'll post em ASAP. :nopics:

More details with the snow machiners! This is starting to sound familiar.

Also, don't forget to update the Secretary as to who all was on this ride. :driving:

And now for the snowmachiners... We stayed on Fairbanks CR Road the entire time it is a Road on the map that is designed for automobile use. the guy stopped and asked if I was a member of "that arctic offrroad club" I said yes, he goes I've had nothing but problems from you fellows, I wrote to the paper about you last year, and you still don't get it you HAVE to stay to one side of the road so the snowmachiners and Skiiers can use the other side. He was a real +++++. I think that the club should write a letter to the newspaper about being harrassed while on a marked road, we weren't on private property, we weren't destroying the landscape, we were driving down a road, albeit a snow covered one.

Thi sis something that needs to be addressed at length as I am sure this is not the end that we will hear of this.

The land is for public use.

These guys have been giving us problems for a few years now. I feel we are in the right but we most step lightly to resolve this.

the clearance would be acheived if you removed your side steps. you really dont want what happened to Timmae's green dodge to happen to your exploder. NBM could you post the pic of Timmae high centered at the Mullins pit? cant find the thread where its at.

yeah, i'm half tempted to snatch 'em off anyways since i lost part of the plastic from the left side step. you know most major manufacturers...they do things the cheapest way possible for them. the snowmobiler was a real ++++....i could see if it was a private rd, or for ATV use only, but when it's marked with a green street sign then it's a public road. i think he was just tryin' to be a hot shot in front of the kids he had behind him. whatever, to each their own.

Yes to each his own, and although I don’t believe you to be in the wrong this guy has caused us a lot of grief in the past. He has written letters to the paper belittling the club and all 4 wheel drive enthusiasts, threatened both body harm and damage to our rigs. As much of an +++ as he may be we must take him very seriously. I agree that we should first send a letter to the paper this time at very least stated the rudeness of a fellow outdoors-man on a public road.

On a brighter note how deep was the snow? Where there many other tracks out there?

Suthernboy

it never ceases to amaze me how much of an +++ some people can be. not to rock the boat, but i'm sure that most everyone in the club has some sort of firearm with them at any given time when on a trail ride. i'm all for gun control (i use both hands) and self defense....but that just comes from growin' up in the south and being very blunt. oh well. either way we need to take the appropriate steps and get this situation delt with with minimal complications/headaches.

the snow was about 6 to 8" and it was all fresh. no tracks until we got up there, then we left a few. at times it proved to be troublesome, but nothin' bad. just a lil rock and go. a little friendly push is all that was needed for the most part. at least until i got stuck at S. Cushman.

all I know is I have a foot-long steel rod in my Jeep for anyone who wants to put their hands on me or my property. The guy sounds like he was just being very closed-minded and irrational, no need to stoop to his level by flashing firearms around.

the problem with you getting stuck is because you can't see the fire berms under the snow, and unless you go slowly and understand the angle they're at, it's hard to get over them. You can't take a stock explorer and just go straight at them. You could have made it over them if you took them at an angle, and that's if you took your explorer to begin with, which you didn't. I don't know how you got stuck at Cushman, because I wasn't there.

Lets keep this CIVIL. We are better than this one person. We can work this with those that are willing to work together and share our great outdoors.

my sentiments exactly. We are in the middle of ironing this out without bantering and saber rattling.

I agree. But remember we not only need to be the bigger people here, we also have the bigger vehicles. :driving:

When this was still a tough trail before it got turned into a flat road. It was way too hard to drive it in the winter and every one was happy. Now that the main trail has been trashed by the State it makes it possible for us to wheel it in the winter.

So tell them to bitch at the state for turning it into a road instead of a trail, not at us who are trying to have a good time just like they are. Friggin selfish bastages.

I have bitched to the state as well as BLM for their "improvements", but their position is that the reclaimation is in the hands of the contractors they hire for that particular fire. In the last few years a number of popular trails have been turned into 'roads', and the state claims no responsibility for the extra traffic.

I have had a word ot two with your snowmachiner in the past. If I see him again I will again set him straight. He gets pissy because he doesn't like having to drive along the ruts - I think it's because he can't drive that well.

There are certain trails out there that are used as traplines, and I try to stay off those with my Jeep so as not to interfere with that guy's access. The trails that are being used for recreation are fair game.
period. If someone has a problem with that, too bad.

Don't mean to sound like a hard-+++++, but I don't like people acting like they own the world. We share. I'll do my best not to make your ride miserable, don't hassle me.

last yr he had said if he saw us with our arctic off road stickers he was going to burn our rigs down ,with a few witnesses around coarse he never mentioned it in the paper ,just we were killing his groomed trails ..well its not a trail but a access rd now , and then, to we were the ones malking tracks at the time .

he has a major thorn in his +++ , but we have to play smarter then he is , and beat him to the punch this time . .
