Update your rig status here! - 93hummer - 27 Aug 07

Hummer:

fixed little odds and ends, added a hand throttle. Need to replace front CTIS lines and install Nate's heater before it gets cold. Not much else to say, glad I bought the burb, it will pay for itself in a year of 42 Irok tire wear.

Will try to install on board air this winter when I take leave (already have an on board compressor and a tank), I work from 0630 (sometimes 545) AM until 6 or 7 (sometimes as late as 11) PM. I don't seem to have the energy to do much on a 2 day weekend but rest and recover from the previous week, so I am not getting much done and not getting any wheelin time.

Suburban:

Have been driving it daily for a while now, starts quickly every time now, it used to stall once in a while and I had to crank it a bit to get it started, it was air locking. I fixed that by replacing a lot of the old fuel lines and now I am not getting air in the injection pump anymore. adjusted the modulator on the TH400 and it shifts nice now. Fixed the heater wires, now the fan runs on high. She needs front brake lines, tires and the dash lights fixed, may work on that stuff this weekend.

Anyone have a set of 16 inch tires they wanna get rid of cheap?

The ZJ made it to Denver. MIL came on for a day just south of Edmonton. Then went back off. I'll have to take a look at that wehn I get to it in November. Otherwise it pulled the camper just fine. Newest plan is to sell this and get a real tow-rig.

My TJ is doing okay. I need a rear adjustable trac bar, and new front wheel bearings to get an accurate alignment done. I'm keeping this trail rig now, so I'm considering a front hub conversion instead of new unit bearings. That'll give me my 5x5.5 bp I need. My engine skid is sitting in the garage, waiting to be reinstalled. I just haven't needed it recently. I'd also like to get a custom belly-up skid fabbed up, and there's plenty of clearance under my Dana 300. Rocker protection is probably next on the list, after I get the steering straightened out (pun intended). Both the kids and I need a step to get into the back seat.

Just finished permanently mounting some Mudflaps to the Hummer and also added Nate's Mojave heater!! I sure won't miss freezing in this thing anymore!

my jeep is in my garage in pieces, I took apart the front end, just as i guessed I had a bad wheel bearing, I tested the ford hubs and the guys at napa were right the inner wheel bearing is different, so I am going to go to Young's gear today and buy Chevy spindles. I got all the pin striping and Sahara graphics off thanks to Mel's heat gun, and the jeep is sanded down, I have one door primed, and half the hood, I misjudged the amount of rattle cans its gonna take to primer the beast. Today I hope to have the thing back on the road. even if its 4 different colors. OH yeah for those that dont know I moved into a house in birchwood, soon as we get settled i am going to try to have a cook out.

Had the exhaust work done and installed the front driveline in the '87. Just playing here in the yard I either broke the axle stub shaft or the hub. I can foresee a locked rear and limited slip front sometime in the future for this truck and upgraded axles.

Update your rig status here! - Angler - 04 Sep 07

I went to youngs gear today and picked up the parts, got home and found out they gave me the wrong spindles, by the time I found this out they had already closed. I got a little more painting done, pretty much the whole front clip is done, and the passanger door, I am going to go by youngs again tomorrow at lunch and swap out the spindles. My wife and daughter will be arriving tomorrow, cant wait on that.

naturalbornmudder Wrote:Where is your rig at, mod wise/ Where is it going from here? What has been done since your last photo op or run?

Project Lil' T grows in 6 month intervels. June 05 was 35" tires, bombproof motor mounts. Coming in the very near future(around Christmas day), lil' T will have a SYE, CV driveshaft, CB installed, Holeproof trail cage, and red and black Wet Okele seat covers.

I am still debating on whether or not to go low-COG using 2" spacers and stock TJ coils to get max flex like Pat does. I am also thinking of either a hybrid flat fender project with widers flatties or a tub/baja fender project.

Long term future, I still need a dependable rear axle, gears, motor and Tranny combo

My last mod was the addition of my Holeproof stinger.
My last trail ride was Banner Creek for Jake's Run 05.
My latest trail damage was destroying 2 fender flares on Jakes Run.
My last temporary immobilization was on Manchu for Manchu Madness

sigh...

Nate, we'll get you going again.

I'll need someone to play follow the leader with down there, and I don't mind if that even requires several months of wrenching to get yours ready.

Let's wheel.

74 - Hope to regear axles when Kevin gets home from Moose hunting, locking the front and welding the rear, once that's done, they are going in, and the 37's go on. If there's time before I leave here, bumpers and sliders.

91 - Brakes on order, (should be here today) and will get them to stop squeeking. Need to troubleshoot cruise, and I'm gonna hook the EGR system back up to see if it helps or makes it run worse. Doing it because, I'm curious.

03 - Brakes in hand, need to change these soon because any application of brakes above 30 mph gives you a sense of death wobble. Have stuff to change trans filter and fluid as well as oil and the rest of the normal stuff that it needs before the fun trip down the AlCan.

Went back to youngs gear they only had one correct spindle in stock th other is coming up from anchorage, will try to get the heap done this weekend, next week going to the field...... Family arrived yesterday

Dodge- Oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter changed. Gets expensive after buying 12+ qts of 5w40 synthetic for diesels. Unfortunately noone in town has the fleetguard filters I want. So they'll be on order for the next time. Still need to change front and rear diff fluids and hit a few more grease points. Tires should be bought soon for it.

Jeep- Nothing changed. Diff cover still dented in. Been too busy with other stuf to fool with it.

Toyota- Someone needs to buy this thing. Got exhaust pipe to weld on but haven't had the time to do that either.

Club trailer- refer to other thread. haven't had time to touch it today either.

LJ - apparently it takes the head technician over a week to rebuild the front differential on an '06 Jeep. The BS story I got was "he has to answer lots of questions and gets pulled away from his work by that". I'm about to blow up at them again...

He's the only one who can do it? Yet another reason to hate Genes...

They spend Half the day finding other stuff wrong with your rig so they can soak you for more money.

Update your rig status here! - sevenslats - 08 Sep 07

Steve, if I had half your patience, I'd get somewhere.

I guess if your baby is in the shop, it doesn't distract you from the big truck, eh?

Update your rig status here! - Angler - 08 Sep 07

Finally got all the right parts from youngs gear and did the conversion today, all thats left is install new brake calipers, bleed brakes and have tires swaped to ford rims. that stuff will have to wait till I get back from the field. the old calipers worked fine but I replaced everything else so i figured might as well replace them to.

the next big project i am going to tackle is steering, the stock steering set up hits my leafspring, while not causing much of a problem its still ghetto, the big problem is the tierod ends are worn slap out and have a good 1/4 inch of slop in them, i got to figure out what i am going to do to modify

Update your rig status here! - sevenslats - 09 Sep 07

Talk to Ole. He's got d44 steering figured out.

They must've gotten it figured out for now, as I saw you driving this yesterday. Big Grin

K-5, running really good, shifting great, this thing must have a pretty decent HP rating, because it goes far better with 3.73's and 35's than any Jeep I've driven with stock to 31's and 3.73's. I'm debating on redoing the dash after we move. I'm sick of the speedo being inop, and having five different styles of guages, including a tach that is on the bottom of the dash, near the cig lighter. Hopefully the donor truck's axles will start going into this thing really soon. I'm itching to get this trimmed up correctly to run the 37's and get another trail ride or two in before it gets shipped.

Burb, dead at the moment thanks to Napa throttle cables that don't work. The company that manufacturers this for them puts a clamp on the cable for no reason and it causes the truck to run around 1200 rpm's at idle. You can put the cable in the bracket a bit differently to keep the idle low, but you loose quite a bit of WOT and it makes setting the TV (kickdown) cable difficult . I ordered the cable from a source other than Napa or Shucks and we'll see if it works better. Should be here by Thursday or Friday.

Montana, wife said the brakes scared the crap out of her last night, so I guess I have a brake job to do this evening after the kids go to sleep.

Update your rig status here! - AKMark - 19 Sep 07

Montana, front pads and rotors replaced. I think someone changed the pads around 60K (it now has 83K) and didn't resurface the rotors, and the new pads suck. They had started to fall apart and horrifically grooved and warped both front rotors. The rear brake pads were as thick as the new ones, so I left them for now. The rear rotors were fine. At least it stops like it should without death wobble.

K-5, went wheelin' today. I have taken it through some mud holes, but never off camber or at angles. I must say, I'm impressed. I've owned three carb'd vehicles that I have driven off road and by far this one ran the best even at angles. I had to keep it above 800 rpms, but that's better than the 3K my old 4.2L had to be at. I was able to power up the steep hills of Quarry road without a problem, and the old FSJ was barely running when I did those this spring. I cannot wait for the 1-tons as the rear brakes are currently inop and I nearly had the back tires overtake the fronts three times while trying to slow down on a few of the muddy hills. I can't justify spending money to fix brakes on an axle that I don't intend to keep. Crossover steering tracking number shows it coming in Friday.

Burb - throttle cable is due in by Fedex tomorrow before 5pm.

XJ sitting in the hospital parking lot. The battery has died 3 days in a row now. I have three yes three red top optimas now that don't work for crap. I have a draw in the XJ somewhere but who knows where and I don't know where to start to look. Kelly help!!!!! Two of the batteries I can't get to charge. The one in it now I cna charge with the battery charger and the test on it shows 100%. I have an exide that has held a charge while sitting in the garage for over 6 months now. It'll go in for the time being, once I get the XJ back home.

Just take the red tops in for warranty. I've never had one that wouldn't charge with a decent charger. My current charger is a piece of crap that won't even try unless the battery isn't fully dead. I've got a three year old red top that has never let me down, even started the red Burb at -30 without being plugged in.

If I have the time, I could lend a hand. Tracing down draw is fun....

Update your rig status here! - akram - 20 Sep 07

I have no warranty card for any of them. One I'm sure wont be replaced, it is one of the very first ones. As soon as I figure out what's going on I have a planfor new battery(s).

Update your rig status here! - AKMark - 20 Sep 07

You don't need a warranty card, just the date stamp on the battery. I turned in a buddies that was dead from letting his Jeep sit too long and my defunct charger wouldn't charge it. Took it to Sears and got a new one for 1/4 of the normal price, would've been free, but it was 2.5 years old.

Update your rig status here! - sevenslats - 20 Sep 07

While we're on topic, where's a good spot to get an Exide Orbital replaced? I've got one with 39 days left on the warranty.
