Update your rig status here! - ChevyKev - 08 Apr 10

I haven't hardly even looked at my rigs lately...

You guys make me feel bad

But hey - I have running water and a new dishwasher installed!

Update your rig status here! - akram - 08 Apr 10

I look at mine, then work on it a bit, then not get it done, then look some more, then work some more, then find a problem that is kicking my but.
so don't feel too bad.

BIGBOY's rear suspension is swapped complete with shackle flip. Also installed a new wiper motor, door hinges, door seals, and buttoned up some of the loose interior panels.

I need take a measurement so Josh can shorten my driveshaft and then the bed is ready to install. Once that's on, I'll start the front and rear winch bumper builds.

Update your rig status here! - 93hummer - 10 Apr 10

Hummer is up for sale again. I work a lot of hours and have no time to work on it. I hate to see it go, but I am moving to the lower 48 in Sept and it lacks working AC. I forsee the rest of my army career working many hours and I don't want to just let it sit around and store/ship 3-4 more times. Plus I am going to retire in 8 years and take a pay cut, so I want to pay off a house before I retire.

The issues never stop. This time it's electrical. Not good on my part since I know NOTHING about electrical stuff. But I am hoping its just a loose connection or corroded wire. Maybe something I knocked around when I replaced the clutch. Other than that Lil Hoss is running fine. New clutch works like a champ. Rear tire carrier and tire removed. Hopefully off to ChevyKev's soon for the rear bumper build. Then it's saving up for the winch, lockers, and gears. But hopefully should be out wheeling with yall before THOSE upgrades.

LJ's at Gene's for going on a month now...Long story short - I'm getting a new front axle and an extended warranty to 100k but not all entirely free.

The front right axle seal kept leaking. Most recently fixed in May...then Dec...then Feb...then again in Mar but right after I passed 60k miles so there it still sits. I told them time and time again that there was something up with the housing keeping the seal from sealing and it did it the first time with less than 3000 miles on a brand new Jeep...When I asked them every time to check the housing for damage, ie warpage or bent tube, they said each time it was good to go and threw another seal at it. Guess how they inspected it....yup...visual...

Anyhow...They tell me to call Chrysler and explain the situation and history and try to get an out of warranty reapir paid for...hahahahahahahaha... Chrysler comes back saying they'll cover half just to be nice but they wouldn't have to. They said the other half was between me and Gene's. So I go a few rounds with the service manager about the fact that they tried and failed so many times under warranty and now they won't help me out at all with the bill because I'm past a certain mileage...and he even admitted they failed to fix it...I think I almost got forcably removed from the manager's office when I started boiling over and called his mechanics a bunch of F#%ing monkeys but I calmed down before it got that far. So after some negotiating...I mean I did get 60k miles worth of use out of it afterall...I'll be paying $800 instead of the $1158 they originally wanted ($2316 was the full parts & labor total for a warranty fix with no C-pay markups), I get to keep all the old parts (many of which are still good), and my warranty now goes out to 100k miles.

I'm not happy, but I'm at least satisfied...

Unscrew the hex caps above the shift rails and pull out the springs and detent balls with a magnet. See if the bore is all full of crud. With the balls out it should shift easier. If it does clean them up and put it back together. If it doesn't, the problem is internal. Could be a bent shift fork or rail.

Another thought: You said they pulled it apart. If they didn't drive the roll pin far enough (the one that holds the shift fork to the rail)when they reassembled the case, it could be hanging up on the case not allowing it to shift. That little "freeze plug" behind the detent ball is were the roll pin is acessed. If that is the case, you'll need another pair of plugs if you can't salvage them after driving them out to access the pin.

Took about all day to get the filler necks put in. There were some slight differences between years and chassis that I am NOW aware of. LOL

Also got the BLUE tailgate and new mirrors installed.

I took it for a test drive and the new rear suspension feels nice.

Now to install the CB and build some bumpers to put the winches in.

you better remember to put those nuts back on. lol

I like your plan, keep the warn for pulling everyone else out of the mud and the other for you! The warn will get 4x the use than the other!

Got the templates made. I don't have a big enough piece of plate left for the center section so I have to run to town for some. If I'm lucky I'll get the pieces cut out tonight.
I have to do an SAS on a Bronco this weekend so that's the end of progress until next week.

Q. So... what does it mean when your lifter tick is neither on the left or right side but in the middle and in the back?

A. It's not a lifter tick! So with a quick view of the cap/rotor I found somehting inside was awry - switched those out and the "tick" went away and Skitzo runs great!

Q. What happens when you drive on a "Temporary Fix" regarding steering box/frame?

A. You get to temporarily fix it again not too far down the "trail."

(the trail was my powerline/slough. And I was just on the other side of it when I once again had no steering.)

Oh - I got some new shoes - traded 38.5x16R16.5 for 38x12R16.5
This gives me 25% less mud to cut through at the mud boggs.
Both were TSL's - these are radials though and are in better condition.

The winch has been put back together for a while waiting to be installed. I took apart the control box today so I can figure out which wire is in, out and power. I pulled the terminal ends off to of the power wires going out the back of the box. So now I need to get new ends and fix that. The remote I have is trashed so using it to figure out stuff doesn't work too well. I'm going to go get another 3 position switch tonight or tomorrow and the terminal ends. Then install it and hook it up. then I'll just do trial and error figuring out which wire is which since I can't seem to do it other wise. Since it is a solid state instead of solenoid packs I have to have power going to it to get continuity.

and seeing as how I'm going to the auction tomorrow I wont be working on this till later tomorrow of maybe sunday. So if any of you electrical guys want to come by tomorrow sometime or sunday you are welcome.
