RedneckYankee

s10 runs and drives

wont quit pissin steering fluid out of the box (cold related perhaps), need a PSC full hydro setup to fall out of the sky onto my door step
Check your frame for flex when turning. My blazer had that problem at 55 mile and resulted in the output shaft bending and breaking the seal.

Where is the fluid coming out of the box? output shaft? Lines? Fittings? Couplings?

RedneckYankee

frame is plated around the whole steering box so it aint that, as for the leak not sure i think its leaking from all the seals and only does it when its like -10 or colder and under pressure.
The cold can play havoc on things like PS. If they were just ok to begin with then the cold makes them not ok. Sometimes a quick rebuild will make it all good. But saving up for that full hydro is way better.
So who is going to be the first to have rockwells?
Rockwells are way overrated. Way too heavy.
definitely a low .... Low... COG!

RedneckYankee

unless your runnin 49" Iroks or 54" boggers or TTC Claws they are a waste of time IMO
True. Big tires are to be expected with Rockwells. Smile
Even then a waste. Look at all the valley guys running hugs ags on f350 with more than stick power all on d60's built. I think the weight of them negate everything.
I'm glad I stuck with my d60 s :p

That should work. I will have to see when I can get out in your neck of the woods
99 Suburban

Started to tear apart the T-case at 4 this morning when I couldn't sleep. Found the filter missing and the pickup tube kinked off to the fluid pump. There's also TONS of grey RTV all over that thing. Took a bit of prying to get it to come apart. The chain looks good, but I haven't finished removing the mainshaft yet. Hope to do that this evening.

02 Envoy, for those who don't know, it was wrecked and totalled. They made arrangements to have it hauled off before I even had a choice on buying it back. It left the house yesterday.

Now we're searching for another DD for my wife. She wants another extended wheelbase SUV or minivan.......
I moved the Blazer's 454 block to where I could reassemble it. Not knowing the exact nature of the "rebuild" it recently supposedly had, I took it apart and found bearings dated within the last year (at time of dissassembly) It looks good and clean. Will replace the oil pump just because it is already aprat. Hopefully by the end of March I can have the blazers new engine, trans, and t-case in place... we'll see.
sweet! kevin is finally getting his blazer started on!! Tongue
99 Burb, gonna just replace the T-case with a known good one for now. Rebuild the other to keep as a spare. I'll probably try to do the swap while you guys are wheeling on Saturday.

Rentals suck in Fairbanks....So hoping to find a vehicle the wife likes by Saturday afternoon. I cannot afford to keep renting crap!
Rebuild the T-case on the Burb Saturday night. (That's the third one I've rebuilt this winter)

Put a new pair of shoes on the Burb today. 33" BFG A/T's. Fit perfect, and considering it's 4.10's, should help a little in the economy department.

A surprise to me was that the A/T's seemed to grip ice almost as good as the studs that had been on it.
I been saying that for years! Post pics mark . Let's see it!
So have I, Pete. For year round tires including wheeling in everything except 12+ inches of mud, BFG AT's are by far the best tire to run up here.
They do good in rocks, dirt, snow, ice, and mud to a point. They have fairly flexible sidewalls that don't easily puncture. They are good on our icy winter roads yet don't wear in the summer like the super soft winter ice tires. I ran these on several plow trucks over the years and loved 'em.
I've always liked them as well. Just didn't have a set for this truck and the wife's lead foot in the Avalanche made her unhappy with them.

I'll get pics later today, busy this morning.
Ton-o-parts sitting in the garage, block/crank/connecting rods back from the machine shop. Still in search for a 7120 head and waiting on the came to come in. Going to start assembeling the motor this weekend and will have to sit until the cam comes in April.
Red 3+3 running, together, and gone!

Kris' car fuel pump replaced and it runs again.

Blazer's 454 heads will be going to see the friendly guys at Port Machine shop on Monday.
When cleaning up the heads it was evident 2 cylinders had been burning oil for a while.
I started to just replace the valve seals but felt a bit of slop in the valve guides... so better now than later.

Another good example of having someone define what a "rebuild" is.
The bearings in the lower end were new. compression was great,
but obviously they did nothing to the heads except clean them up a bit.
Burb - Rocked the parks highway. Never even shifted out of overdrive even with headwinds that had the windsocks going straight.

06 GMC Envoy XL - New DD for the wife, half the miles, and about half the age of her old one. It's a literal twin to the one the was wrecked, with the exception of interior color, and this one has a built in overhead DVD player. It hasn't been inspected by the dealer yet, so they are going to send it to service and the body shop (bumper is cracked) then ship it up to Fairbanks for us sometime next week.

K-5 - Is currently wondering if I even care about it, but I did find it's title finally.
a level headed dodge. Two inch leveling kit and new front shocks installed. Just a DD but an update/mod.
This was actually a bit difficult -
being I did it outside with a floor jack, hand tools, wood blocks, cinder blocks and a 3" ratchet strap. It was wet and cold and dark The goal was to fit 35 inch tires on, except the 2003 dodge will not allow for the 16" OR 16.5" wheels I had. So... I cant sell my current 17 inch wheels and tires to fund a plasma cutter.
Sad
sigh...

The goal was to increase the tire height to get better highway miles due to a better ratio. (same RPM, but at a higher speed)
ill have to save up for when these tires go bald. Thinking about 38 inch swampers in the near future for my 01 dodge after i spring the axle forward a few inches.

Tragdor is now sitting on blocks. the goal is to get the tractors and RCV shafts on them this weekend!
Keep in mind your 03 probably has 3.54 gears, don't go too big on tires or you'll actually loose mileage and run the risk of killing your trans quicker as well.
3.73 gears Smile
and im easy on the truck Smile maybe 33s. there is not much "more" tire really.
